Hello again

By |May 2nd, 2016|Blog|Comments Off on Hello again

It’s been a while, I’ve been concentrating on my own work over the winter months, a few new things on the go. Here are a few dates for the diary.

European Stone Festival Austria
We are taking a group of stonemasonry students to participate in the European Stone Festival outside the Salzburg Cathedral along side over a hundred other masons and apprentices. With a theme of Romanesque to Modern we should see a wide range of creative carvings, can’t wait to see everyone and catch up with friends old and new.

Also spotted this Stonemason Festival at Winchester Catherdral

AitPThen later on in the year there is Arts in the Park at Redcatch Park, who are looking for artist, performers, demonstrating, showcasing and selling their work. 11th September 12-5pm. I shall be there so swing by and say hello and try your hand at stone carving.

It’s August already

Firstly I have a few workshops running, SIS-Leaflet

  • This coming Thursday, 13th August, is a workshop for kids. Have a look at the Arnos Vale web site.
  • On Friday 21st August there is an all day stone carving at SESC, you can book a place at the Step in Stone website.
  • Then there’s bowl carving on the 13th September at Arnos Vale, to create a water feature, or fruit bowl or planter from a piece of Bath Stone.

hepworthwebbannerI’m just back from the Tate Britain in London, visiting the Barbara Hepworth collection, loved it, made lots of sketches and notes for future ideas, just love her work, feel invigorated by my visit.

Spring is here

I wanted to thank my lovely stone carving students that attended the green-man workshop on Sunday at Arnos Vales Underwood Centre, for making it a really great afternoon with some wonderful results.

Next months workshop is on June 21st, Fathers day, we will be carving Easter Island heads, the stone we are carving is a bit bigger than usual and we will producing a 3D sculpture, so if you’d like a challenge, the chance to gain more carving experience and have fun as well,  come along.

A quick word about the bank holiday weekend, I shall be attending the Gloucester Stone Carving Festival, 20+ stonemasons from around the country are given a block of stone and less than 20hrs to carve an animal themed sculpture, so if you fancy a day out please do pop up and say hi.

Fingers crossed for some good weather.
